A motorist is injured in a crash along I-82 near Grandview

A 48-year-old Richland man was arrested and charged with drunk driving for his role in causing an injury crash along Interstate 82 on Jan.7. The incident occurred near the Grandview exit right around midnight.

According to a spokesperson with the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the defendant had been traveling west along I-82 when his Volkswagen Passat suddenly collided with a Honda Accord that was being driven in a nearby lane.

The 34-year-old Erie, Pennsylvania, resident who had been driving the Honda denied having been injured in the crash. His 33-year-old female companion complained of undisclosed injuries, though. Paramedics transported her to Prosser Memorial Hospital to be checked out by doctors.

A spokesperson with WSP reports that both occupants of the Honda were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The roster of inmates for the Benton County Jail listed the driver of the Volvo as having been booked on drunk driving charges at 3 a.m. on the day of the crash. It showed that he had been released from police custody by the following Monday morning though. It's unclear when his next hearing was scheduled for.

If a list of the most dangerous places that you can have a car crash was made, high up on that list would be interstates, intersections and rural roads.

One of the reasons that freeways are so dangerous for motorists is because drivers travel at such a fast rate of speed. When two cars collide, the damage is often substantial. Injuries are often life-altering. Insurance companies are often difficult to deal with. An attorney can negotiate with them on your behalf to get you the compensation that you deserve.
