A Kennewick man is hurt in a crash with an alleged drunk trucker

A motorist suffered serious injuries when a tractor-trailer operator ran a red light at a Kennewick intersection, crashing into the motorist's vehicle on the evening of Dec. 22. The violent crash occurred just before 5:49 p.m. that fateful day at the intersection of Highway 395 and Hildebrand Boulevard.

Witnesses told Washington State Patrol crash scene investigators that they saw the driver of a Volvo tractor-trailer speeding down the roadway as he drove northbound along Highway 395 in Kennewick. Although the traffic signal where the highway intersects with Hildebrand Boulevard was red, he failed to stop for it. After running the light, the truck crashed into a Dodge Neon that had been traveling westbound at the time.

Paramedics who were summoned to the crash scene stabilized the 49-year-old male driver of the Neon and transported him to Trios Southridge Hospital. By the following day, the Kennewick man's condition had been upgraded to "good." It's unclear what type of injuries he suffered in the crash.

The 57-year-old truck driver apparently fled the scene of the crash after it occurred. Washington State Patrol officers later tracked the Everett resident down and placed him under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving. By the time he was processed into the Benton County Jail, his charges had been upgraded to include felony hit-and-run and vehicular assault ones as well.

Trucks that collide with vehicles at a high rate of speed often kill. If a victim is lucky enough to walk away alive from such a crash, then they're often left with debilitating injuries that take a long time to heal. A truck accident attorney can help you navigate the complexities of injury claims so that you can recover the compensation you need to pay medical bills and get back on your feet again.
