Avoid getting into a wide-turn trucking accident

Semitrucks are so large that they can't always navigate traffic in the way that normal automobiles do. For example, sometimes when a semitruck makes a turn through an intersection, it needs to swing out wide into a neighboring lane of traffic in order to successfully complete the maneuver. In this article, we will take a look at several possible scenarios that could result in an unintentional wide-turn trucking accident.

Turning into the left lane when making a right turn

Imagine that a semitruck is making a right turn. It would need to partially occupy the neighboring lane to the left in order to complete the turn. In this situation, a car could get crushed if it is occupying the lane that the semitruck needs to drive into.

Driving across the right land to make a left turn

When making a right turn, the semitruck driver might try to start the turn while traveling in the left lane to ensure there is enough clearance. This, however, requires the semitruck driver to go across the right lane of traffic. If there is a car in the way, or if a car moves alongside the semitruck and into its blind spot, the results could be devastating.

Vehicle drivers and semitruck drivers should be on alert to avoid wide-turn trucking accidents at all times on the road. If you were involved in such a crash -- and you suffered injuries -- as a driver or passenger in a small car, you might want to investigate whether you can hold the semitruck driver and his or her employer financially responsible for your injuries.
