Tragic car accident results in 1 serious injury and 1 death

A woman died on Thursday and a man was severely injured after they were hit by a vehicle while waiting at a bus stop. The crash happened close to the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. Emergency crews were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 11:49 a.m.

Emergency responders found an injured 63-year-old man from Bremerton and an injured 31-year-old woman from Bremerton at the crash site. The man was rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center and the woman was transported by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center. Both of the crash victims suffered serious lower leg injuries

Unfortunately, in spite of the best efforts of the hospital that cared for the 33-year-old woman, she succumbed to her injuries later that day. As of last reports, the condition of the man remains unknown.

The collision that injured these two pedestrians happened when a 23-year-old driver from Seabeck plowed into a bus stop. The man and woman were waiting for their bus when the driver lost control of his car and struck them. Police suspect that the man was showing signs of intoxication at the time they arrived on scene. The issued a field sobriety test on the driver and during the test, he admitted that he had been taken marijuana and meth just prior to driving. Police booked the man on suspicion of vehicular homicide and DUI. His bail is to be set at $500,000.

Washington residents who are seriously hurt by drunk drivers -- and family members of those who are killed -- will have strong claims for seeking financial restitution from the drivers responsible for hurting them. Injured parties may therefore wish to investigate potential legal strategies that they can employ in Washington court to achieve such a result.
