3-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 leaves 2 victims injured

On Behalf of | Aug 25, 2016 | Car Accidents

A 3-vehicle crash happened along Interstate 5 last Thursday in Federal Way. The collision involved a motor home, a box truck and a car. Two people were sent to the hospital as a result of the collision, and one of them needed to be flown to the hospital by helicopter.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the motor home was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 at approximately 1 p.m. The motor home was not able to stop fast enough to avoid hitting a vehicle, causing the motor home to move into a lane to the right. The force of the collision with the motor home propelled the car beneath the back of a box truck. The collision happened close to the Route 18 exit.

The 45-year-old male driver of the car succeeded in getting out of the vehicle without assistance. However, his 45-year-old female passenger was trapped in the car as it burned. Passersby equipped with fire extinguishers and a Washington State Trooper came to her aid.

Emergency crews extricated the woman and then flew her to Harborview Medical Center by helicopter. She was reported to be in critical condition as a result of a spine injury and burns on her leg. The driver was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

The motor home driver in this case was not intoxicated, but troopers have faulted the driver for causing the crash. When serious and critical injuries happen in a Washington motor vehicle crash, those with injuries may have the ability to seek financial restitution for the costs associated with their medical care in addition to compensation for other damages stemming from the accident. Every case is different, but with the assistance of a qualified personal injury lawyer, victims can try to be made whole regarding the incident.
