Father and baby killed in tragic head-on collision

A 25-year-old man and his baby daughter died in a three-car accident last week. The pair died along Mount Baker Highway, and two more individuals suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened on a recent Sunday morning just east of Deming.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the 24-year-old mother of the 5-month-old girl was driving in another vehicle that got tangled up in the crash. She suffered non-life threatening injuries. Another man, aged 71, was critically injured. Both the injured man and woman required hospital care at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

The Washington State Patrol reports that the 71-year-old man was driving his Chevy Suburban eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line. The mother swerved so the SUV wouldn't hit her. This caused her Toyota Yaris to flip over. Next, the SUV continued and struck the woman's husband and baby's car, which had been following her. The SUV hit them head-on. Tragically, neither her husband or the baby survived, and authorities pronounced them dead at the crash site.

Police are continuing to investigate how this accident occurred. No information has been given as to whether distracted driving, sleepy driving, drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the collision.

When someone dies in a Washington motor vehicle crash, family members of the deceased may have viable personal injury claims to seek financial restitution from the party or parties who caused the accident. Injured parties may also be able to hold the responsible person liable for damages relating to their medical care and other costs.
