Car accident leaves 1 woman injured just outside Benton City

A two-car accident sent one woman to the hospital in mid-December. The incident happened on a Friday afternoon just outside of Benton City, Washington. According to the Washington State Patrol, the injured woman was rushed to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, where she received treatment and was later released.

The collision happened along Interstate 82 at approximately 1 p.m., only a mile away from Benton City. The injured woman was traveling westbound in a Toyota when another driver in a Honda attempted to pass her. While passing, the Honda struck the Toyota. Both vehicles came to rest in the interstate median following the collision.

The Honda driver was fortunate to escape the crash without injury. He is expected to be issued a citation for second-degree negligent driving. As for other possible violations of the law, it does not appear that any occurred in relation to the accident. Police say that both of the drivers wore seat belts. Furthermore, neither driver is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the collision.

When a serious car accident injury happens -- and even when a non-life-threatening injury occurs -- injured parties hurt by another party's negligence may have viable claims for financial damages that can be made in civil court. If successfully navigated, such personal injury claims could bring injured Benton City plaintiffs money to pay for their medical care and money to pay for property damages in addition to other categories of compensation. Compensation for punitive damages, court costs, lawyer fees and interest may be pursuable in certain cases as well.
